Papa Came to Town

Well, it's like it says. Papa came to town. Oh! And Lucinda!
Lucinda was kind enough to fix Lyla's bad Fantastic Sam's haircut.
We had the pleasure of hosting them for one night, then spent the next day together, along with the Wises. We all met up at the Fort Worth Zoo on a strangely warm January day to say hello to our favorite animals, picnic, and enjoy each other.

We've had a particularly rough winter, health-wise, at the Q home. I struggled, initially, in deciding whether or not Flint was healthy enough to attend. At the time, he was halfway through treatment for bronchitis and was supposed to receive breathing treatments throughout the day, and he was generally lethargic. He seemed better that day, and I rationalized that at least he'd be confined to a stroller and therefore less likely to run around irritating his cough. He definitely continued his malaise at the zoo - VERY unlike our boy to want to just sit or be held. He would not sleep in the stroller, either, so he was basically a lump, albeit a happy lump.

It was a gorgeous day! We wished we had made it out to the zoo a little earlier, though! I guess we underestimated how much time it would take to get through it all. And unfortunately, it closed at 4:00, before we had managed to get to the penguins, which is the animal Lyla requested the WHOLE time we were there. We ran ahead, though, and got to their measly habitat just in time. No train ride this time, though. We were definitely out of time, by then.

Everyone's favorite part was "the birdies." You may recall this being a favorite from previous trips to the zoo, as well! The kids (and grown-ups) had loads of fun feeding birds and coaxing them onto fingers, shoulders and arms. Lyla was thrilled when one perched on her arm!

The Wises followed us home after the zoo trip. We all chowed down on some pizza while Flint's late nap turned into super early bedtime. Here are some fun moments from our weekend:

As annoyed as I can be with crazy Texas weather, I am definitely grateful to be able to enjoy the outdoors in the middle of January! We had a lot of fun with our family that day, and can't wait to spend more time with Papa and Lucinda when they visit next... or... when we visit them next! Lookout, Colorado!
